Poxabogue Evergreen Cemtery
11 Sagg Main St, Sagaponack, NY 11962, USA

The Bridgehampton Museum is now the official steward of the Poxabogue-Evergreen Cemetery working to preserve this historic site! 90% of all donations directed this way are directly invested in the Cemetery with 10% being allocated to the Bridgehampton Museum's general fund.
Established in the 1700s, this cemetery holds generations of Sagaponack ’s earliest residents, including Revolutionary War veterans, a section for unnamed enslaved African-Americans, unnamed members of the Southampton Poorhouse and more recently, acclaimed author James Jones and artist Sheridan Lord. Time has taken its toll. The grounds are overgrown, fencing is falling, and many headstones are damaged or fallen.
Our goal is to raise funding to:
Remove overgrowth and repair fencing
Bring dignity and respect to the unmarked graves of the poor and enslaved
Restore and reset damaged headstones
Establish a long-term care and preservation plan
This is more than a clean-up effort – it’s a promise to honor the lives and legacy of those who came before us.
Donations can be made to The Bridgehampton Museum via check with Cemetery Restoration in the memo or via credit card online by clicking here. If you’d like to discuss a larger contribution, offer volunteer support, or share a family connection to the cemetery, please reach out -we would be honored to speak with you personally.
Let us come together – as neighbors, stewards and storytellers – to ensure the Poxabogue/Evergreen Cemetery stands not in neglect, but in tribute.
