About the Strong Wheelwright Shop
The Strong Wheelwright Shop was built in the 1870's by George W. Strong and was in use until 1927, less than 100 years ago. A wheelwright is someone who makes wooden wheels. This trade was imperative in pre 20th century America for numerous businesses. A proper wheelwright was a carpenter, an engineer and a blacksmith using many skills to accomplish their goal.
Our Mission: The Bridgehampton Museum collects, preserves and interprets the history of the Bridgehampton community by engaging the public in our shared cultural heritage.
