AI text-to-image software is an artist’s tool—nothing more, nothing less. Much like a paintbrush, a chisel, or a piece of charcoal, this technology exists as a means for artists to express their vision, evoke emotions, and communicate ideas. Throughout history, the evolution of tools has transformed artistic expression. Imagine how different art might look if spray paint had been available in the Renaissance or water-jet cutting in the Baroque period. Yet, as with any tool, the artist doesn’t need to fully understand the mechanics behind it. What matters is how the tool empowers the creation of something impactful.

In this presentation, I will explore the role of AI text-to-image technology as a tool for artistic expression. While I am not a scientist, technologist, or coder, I am an artist. My focus is not on how the software functions but on what it can do and how it has reshaped my own creative process. I’ll share examples of the images I have created using AI-assisted technology, offering insight into why these tools are essential to my work today.

I’ll begin by briefly sharing my journey as an artist. After many years working as an architect, I’ve returned to my artistic roots, embracing new technologies that allow me to explore concepts I find compelling. From deeply personal and dark themes to politically charged ideas and meditations on an uncertain future, AI has opened new pathways for expression. The technology, while controlled by my text prompts, brings its own interpretation and perspective, offering a reach beyond the confines of my own memory and imagination. This dynamic collaboration between artist and tool has enriched my work in unexpected ways, allowing me to push boundaries and provoke thought.

Finally, I’ll invite the audience to engage in a discussion about the implications of these tools in the art world. How does AI shape the creative process? Does it challenge traditional notions of authorship, or does it simply expand the artist’s toolkit? By sharing my experience, I hope to spark a conversation about the evolving relationship between technology and creativity, and the potential for AI to serve as a partner in artistic exploration.
